gym rules & Your membership
This is a list of rules for the gym, from how the membership works to etiquette when conducting yourself in the gym.
GYM RULES & etiquette
Use a spray and cloth to wipe down equipment you have handled and sweated on.
Always tidy equipment away once finished.
If equipment is busy, you may need to work in with the other member, or come back to it when it’s free. The coach on shift will help you.
Use chalk only if necessary and be careful when applying. No powdered chalk in gym 2, there is liquid chalk available, apply this over the kitchen sink.
When moving around the gym, be mindful of other members lifting. As we are a small gym, you may need to wait before you can move.
If you’re unsure of anything, always ask the coach on shift.
No dropping weights. We have neighbours above us and to the side. If you are doing lifts such as deadlifts, they are to be done on the platforms provided, or you adlib a platform with the rubber mats available (in gym 1). These are to be done in a manner where at times the downward phase is fast, but you always have the bar under control, and the hands never let go of the bar.
Always place 3 rubber mats in a line to adlib a platform when using the trap bar in gym 1.
Please ensure you maintain good personal hygiene in the gym, by wearing clean workout clothes and using deodorant. We workout in close proximity of one another, so please be mindful of this.
Please keep conversation light in the gym. Refrain from controversial topics and dark subject matter. The coach may move the conversation on if necessary.
No phonecalls in the gym. Please take calls outside.
Please wipe muddy shoes off as you come in. You may need to remove them if they are going to cause a mess.
No taking photos or videos with others in the background. Please ask for permission if you are planning to do this.
Gym 1 toilet and gym 2 kitchen are both lockable and have space for you if you need to get changed. Do not do this on the gym floor.
Please dress appropriately for the gym. Tops to be worn at all times. You can be barefoot or wear socks in the gym if you wish.
No smoking on the driveway. This includes vapes.
No Olympic lifting in the gyms. This is due to space.
YOUR MEMBERSHIP
It's very important to add yourself to the WhatsApp group (please contact Ben or Cat for the link) to make sure you don't miss out on any updates. If you haven't already, download the app to book in for sessions here for Apple devices, or here for Android devices. You can also book sessions via this link here.
Your direct debit for Dynamo Gym will come up as GoCardless on your statement, please do not cancel this as this will effecitvely cancel your membership. There will also be a one off joining fee of £7.50 that will be taken out too. If you have joined mid-month, your initial payment will be pro-rata’d, which means it will be the equivilent of days remaining in the month that you are charged for, after that it will be the full membership charge per 1st of each month.
To get the most out of your workouts, request a programme. Click here to go to the programme request form.
Here is some more information you will need going forward:
If you are new to weight training, we suggest 2x a week to start with to allow time for adaptation. After 8 to 12 weeks or so, you can toy with the idea of 3 to 4x a week. Typically we don't suggest people lift more than 4x a week, depending on goals and ability.
Bookings can be made 2 weeks in advance.
You cannot book sessions within 5 minutes of the session starting.
We ask members to attend sessions no earlier than 5 minutes before the session begins.
You can only add yourself to a wait list if you don't have a booking in already that day.
Please cancel a booking as soon as you know you can't make it (ideally >15 minutes before session starts), this means other members can potentially join.
Please try to avoid late cancellations (<15 minutes of session starting), this means other members can't potentially join. If a member late cancels a session, they cannot rebook on the same day.
Please manage your bookings. Repeat no-shows and late cancellations may result in a warning, and further action may be needed.
You can pause your membership for up to 2 weeks per calender year. Either in one 2 week block, or in two 1 week blocks. This cannot be done retrospectively.
If you have a planned medical procedure that will impact your ability to attend the gym, please get in touch with us in advance. We are not able to offer anything retrospectively.
We have 2 gyms on the same driveway, make sure to book into the one you wish to attend. Make note of which gym you book into.
Gym 2 has CCTV installed. This is because we hire the space out to external trainers, as well as for security purposes. Data is deleted every 3 months. Footage is only ever reviewed if an incident has taken place, and will never ever be used for anything else. We take everyones privacy very seriously.
There are no dogs or other animals permitted in the gym. This includes being tied up outside during a session.
Should you wish to cancel your membership, we require 14 days notice your usual billing date (this is usually between the 1st and the 5th of the month please check your bank as this differs between them). If you cancel within those 14 days it may not be enough time to stop the process of the direct debit and you may incur a £10 admin fee.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
